Review: Promax-70

March 21st, 2009

This bar is designed to be a protein and fiber source, not necessarily a source of nutrition. It is best used to augment your exercise program and not as an “organic snack.” With all the whey, milk, eggs, yogurt, soy and nuts, this bar contains a decent amount of protein (the label indicates 5 grams of protein per bar). Obviously, it’s not for those sensitive to dairy products or wheat. Although the literature says that it has no high fructose corn syrup, the ingredients show both fructose and corn syrup, so you’re getting something very close to the same thing.

The label says it has 70 calories per serving, but the bar (which is a single serving) is pretty small compared to other bars (about half the size). This bar contains fiber from oats, beet and soy, plus a combination of vitamins and minerals targeted to the body builder or athlete. It’s kind of like a protein shake in a bar form.

Personally, the taste was not my favorite. If you are looking for the cookie taste showing on the label, you may be disappointed.

Taste

The taste is not what you expect when you first bite into the bar. It’s not sugary and is a tiny bit acidic. It does taste a bit like Oreo cookies, but it’s not a strong taste and not the texture of cookies.

Pros

It’s very low in calories, and high in protein with plenty of fiber. It’s good for exercise and for dieters who want a candy bar that is not highly caloric.

Cons

The taste and texture are not that special. The ingredients could be healthier, especially the sweeteners. A bit expensive: the price is the same as other bars that are twice the size.

Price
