Review: Macro Greens Bars

March 27th, 2009

The Macro Greens bar is made from very healthy ingredients. The chocolate & cinnamon bar is very rich and tasty and contains enough Brazil nuts for day’s worth of selenium, and they are organic. Actuallly, the product is 100% organic, contains lactobaccilus (wich contributes for the friendly flora), spinach powder, spirulina and chlorella (source of minerals and vitamins) and appetite inhibitors. You also get horsetail herb, ginger and echinacea in this bar, making it a great immune system booster. Given the taste (the berry bar is outstanding), healthy green superfoods and fresh, organic ingredients, this bar comes out near the top of the superfood bar list. At $0.07 cents per gram, it’s on the expensive side, but you’re paying for the quality of this bar.

Taste

The taste is very good, the chocolate is rich, but not sour, and the Brazil nuts are really fresh. The bar tastes a lot like a home made bar. It’s not sugary, but is plenty sweet from the agave nectar and the dates. It’s not a flavor explosion, but it’s a very pleasant experience. The berry bar is the best tasting of their bars and does, in fact, explode with flavor in your mouth.

Pros

The bar is made with natural ingredients and is perfect for general snacking or meal replacement. It’s useful for energy, weight loss, exercises, intestinal problems, or just a fast healthy snack between meals.

Cons

If you don’t like Brazil nuts, agave nectar or green powder in your bar, the chocolate bar is probably not for you. This is not a bar that’s super high in protein. Because of its robust list of ingredients, it’s on the expensive side.

I tried the macro greens food bar, I must be allergic to something in them, within … 2 hours of eating it, I was shaking, vomiting, lightheaded, stiff, cold, abdominal pain, and racing heart, … I began to feel better about 4 hours after that, must contain some sort of diuretic, but 10 hours later, I still don’t feel back to normal.

just a warning to others out there to be careful. Haven’t had allergic reaction in the past to anything.

James, many people are allergic to nuts, so I’d start with that. Your reactions sound severe, so I’d recommend getting tested so you know exactly what caused the problem. You don’t want to run into it again accidentally in some other healthy food. Good luck!
